Candid Conversations With Dr. DT Shackelford Coming Sept. 17

As part of the U of A Student Affairs Collaborative, the Multicultural Center and Transition Programs and Initiatives (TPI) are partnering to present Candid Conversations with Dr. DT Shackelford on Thursday, Sept. 17.

Students are invited to engage with Shackelford, a nationally recognized servant leader, educator, former SEC student-athlete and recipient of the Wuerffel Trophy, college football's highest honor for excellence in athletics, academics and community service.

Following the student event, Student Affairs employees and campus partners are invited to continue the discussion during The Aftertalk - an informal gathering focused on supporting today's college students.

Rather than a traditional lecture, Candid Conversations is an interactive experience where Shackelford will share with students his experiences overcoming adversity, pursuing academic excellence and leading with purpose - while encouraging students to think about their own goals and potential.

Students can ask questions, participate in discussions and connect with a leader known for his authenticity and approachable style.

"Whether you are a first-year student discovering your place on campus or a graduating senior preparing for what's next, this conversation will challenge, encourage and inspire you to pursue excellence and make an impact on those around you," said Jerrod Lockhart, director of Transition Programs & Initiatives.

TPI and the Multicultural Center will also host Candid Conversations with Dr. DT Shackelford: The Aftertalk following the student program.

The Aftertalk "Supporting Today's College Student" will bring together Student Affairs colleagues and partners for an open discussion about the evolving experiences, challenges and opportunities affecting students today.

Drawing on his experience as an educator, servant leader and higher education professional, Shackelford will facilitate a conversation about how institutions can continue supporting student success, belonging, resilience and overall wellbeing. Rather than a presentation, The Aftertalk is designed as an exchange of ideas among professionals committed to student success.
