New Lunchtime Concert Series, The Lunch Hour, Kicks Off Today in KUAF Lobby
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – KUAF, the local National Public Radio affiliate for Northwest and Western Arkansas, will kick off a new monthly lunchtime concert series, The Lunch Hour, today featuring local musicians and local restaurants in the lobby of KUAF's studios at the Carver Center for Public Radio.
"The Lunch Hour is a celebration of local artists and local businesses and an opportunity for new audiences to experience music and food, all on their lunch break," says Leigh Wood, KUAF's general manager. "We wanted to do something similar to NPR's wildly successful Tiny Desk Concerts, but KUAF's community engagement manager, Jasper Logan, took the idea and made it unique to Fayetteville and to KUAF."
The first concert will feature music from Fayetteville rapper Baang and food from WoodStone Craft Pizza. Doors will open at noon and music will begin at 12:20. The concert will take place in the lobby of the station at 9 S. School Avenue in Fayetteville, within walking distance of the University of Arkansas campus, the downtown Fayetteville square, and Fayetteville public library. The event is free, but registration is required.
"We're hoping to expose KUAF fans to new music and to expose fans of the musicians to KUAF," said Logan. Each performance will be recorded for Ozarks at Large and will also be filmed for the station's YouTube channel. "We also added an element of conversation between the artist and the local restaurant owner or chef to talk about building community through music, food and business, that we'll release as a podcast," says Logan.
The Lunch Hour in January will feature Pura Coco, with lunch from a restaruant still to be determined on Friday, Jan. 21. KUAF will announce future The Lunch Hour performances into 2022.
