Students enrolled in the Sam M. Walton College of Business now have the opportunity to apply for a position in Leadership Walton, a program offering professional development opportunities designed as an enhancement to the undergraduate business experience.

Requirements stress leadership development, career path management and academic learning.

J.R. Hinkson, associate director for Undergraduate Programs in the Walton College, serves as the Leadership Walton coordinator. "Leadership Walton is perfect for any Walton student looking to set themselves apart," Hinkson said. "We hear from recruiters all the time that they are interested in more than a student's GPA - they want to see leadership experience. By participating in this program, students are signaling to future employers that they go above and beyond."

Some of the benefits of joining Leadership Walton include:

  • Recognition at the Walton College commencement ceremony upon graduation
  • Opportunities to participate in exclusive networking events with corporate contacts
  • A green sticker to wear at the fall and spring Business Career Fair, which makes Leadership Walton students easily identifiable to companies
  • Participation in community service projects alongside corporate representatives
  • Resume optimization, interview preparation and networking etiquette training
  • Special guest lectures
  • Certificate of completion

Kirsten James, a senior marketing major from Rogers, encourages all Walton College students to apply.  "Because of Leadership Walton, I have gained many useful skills that will help me excel in the business world," James said. "I have enjoyed the networking opportunities that the program has provided me, allowing me to make professional connections within the Northwest Arkansas community and beyond."

Apply at the Leadership Walton page on the Walton College website. (https://walton.uark.edu/career/leadership-walton.php)

The application deadline is Sept. 1. Students applying for Leadership Walton must have a minimum of two academic years left to complete the program. All applications are considered and selections are based on the quality and thoughtfulness of each application.
