Fulbright College Celebrates 2019 Scholars Graduating With a 4.0 GPA

More than 1,070 students applied to graduate this spring from the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, but only 47 of these soon to be new alumni will do so after maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA and completing more than half of their coursework with the U of A.

This group was honored in early May, at the college's annual spring Scholars Breakfast.

"This is such a meaningful annual tradition, because it allows us to recognize these amazing scholars as they complete their undergraduate studies and take their next steps — either academically or into their chosen career," said Todd Shields, dean of Fulbright College. "These 2019 scholars make us so proud; we know they will go on to do extraordinary things!"

New graduates who maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA include:

• Anthropology major: Jessamy Eve Samuels* (honored posthumously)
• Art majors: Olivia Fredricks*, Rebecca Gilliland* (with double major in History)
• Biology majors: Carah Colbert*, Grant Damico*, Julienne Daniel*, Josephine DuBois*, Anna Engelkes*, Chen-Bo Fang* (also majoring in International Studies and Asian Studies), Katelyn Gerth*, Callie Shawhan*, Allison Strope*
• Biology and Chemistry double majors: Emma Buckner*, Chynna Denham*, Kathleen McClanahan*
• Chemistry majors: Anthony Azzun*, Mattison Cato, Nimit Gandhi* (with double major in Spanish), Victoria Hoggard*, Alexis Jacobus*, Robin Raley*, Manasa Veluvolu* (with an additional degree in Management)
• English majors: Julianna Tidwell*, Brock DeMark* (with double major in History), Madison Lester* (also majoring in International Studies and Middle East Studies)
• French major: Wyatt Heikes* (with double major in Middle East Studies)
• History majors: Sarah Smith*, Alexis Morris (with double major in Middle East Studies), Spencer Soule* (with double major in Political Science)
• Journalism majors: Lydia Fielder*, Phillip Smith (with double major in Political Science)
• Mathematics majors: Sameer Kulkarni (with an additional degree in Mechanical Engineering), Andrew Osborne (with double major in Physics)
• Music majors: Julia Penner, Hannah Rodriguez*
• Physics majors: Stephen Storment*, Alexander O'Brien* (with an additional degree in Chemical Engineering), Brett Glenn* (with an additional degree in Mechanical Engineering)
• Political Science majors: Cynthia Edwards, Lexie Haralson, Emma Kromer
• Psychology majors: Reagan Broach*, Emily Daniels*, Edie Hardin, Callie Monk*, Elizabeth Reimer*
• Spanish major: Annelise Zaring (with an additional degree in Kinesiology)
