Spring Classes Help Workforce Advance Their Careers or Start New Ones

ROGERS, Ark. – Registration is open for more than 30 professional and workforce development classes offered by the University of Arkansas that can help employees and managers advance in their careers or start new ones.

Registration for training options that help workers stay competitive are showcased on the U of A Professional and Workforce Development website, managed by the Global Campus in Rogers. Face-to-face and online options are available.

Featured classes

Participants can earn certificates or prepare for certification exams through the Global Campus in Rogers, 3300 Market St., Suite 402. Spring classes include:

• SHRM Learning System for SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP – Participants update human resource knowledge and can prepare to take Society for Human Resource Management certification exams. Classes are 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Jan. 31 to May 23. The cost is $1,299. Participants can apply for an Arkansas Education Loan for this program.
• Innovative Management Series – Two classes to help managers improve their skills: “Be a Manager They Want to Follow” Feb. 8 and “Coaching, Improvement Plans, Documentation and Termination” April 5. Both classes run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the cost is $249 each.
• Work Smarter: Organization and Time Management – Managers learn to maximize productivity and reduce stress. The class is set for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 22, and the cost is $299.
• IT Readiness Program – Participants can prepare for entry-level information technology jobs. Classes include front-end, back-end, mobile and Java development. The application deadline is March 1, and the cost is $999 for Arkansas residents and $1,499 for residents outside Arkansas.
• Nielsen Norman Group User Experience (UX) Certification Program – To earn certification participants must complete five days of learning new tech skills to enhance user experience for websites and applications. The classes are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 12, 13, 14, 28 and 29, and the cost is $1,699 for Arkansas residents and $1,999 for residents outside Arkansas. Costs for Arkansas residents are reduced through a grant from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. Participants can apply for an Arkansas Education Loan for this program.
• Dynamic Leadership Certificate Program – Managers define their leadership styles and enhance skills to maximize success. Participants meet 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 12, and the cost is $399.
• Administrative Assistant Program – This 9-week program offers a combination of online and face-to-face classes to prepare people for a new career as an administrative assistant. The first set of classes runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays from April 16 to June 18. Participants can apply for an Arkansas Education Loan for this program.

Computer application classes

Hands-on, instructor-led computer application classes empower employees to enhance their skills and become more efficient and productive. These one-day classes provide basic-, intermediate- and advanced-level instruction for Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite and other applications. Classes are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Popular classes include:

• Microsoft Excel – Part 1 (basics) Feb. 22 and March 29, Part 2 (intermediate) Feb. 1, March 15 and April 19, Part 3 (advanced) April 5 and May 10. The cost is $159 per class.
• Adobe Photoshop – Part 2 (advanced) Feb. 6. The cost is $199.
• Adobe InDesign – Part 1 (basics) Feb. 27, Part 2 (advanced) March 6. The cost is $199 per class.

U of A faculty, staff and current students are eligible for a 10 percent discount on training classes.

The Global Campus can build and deliver customized training for organizations to fit unique industry needs.
