Rec Day Returns to Celebrate Wellness and Recreation on Campus

University Recreation is once again hosting Rec Day, a free event for students that celebrates recreation and wellness. This year's event will take place on Thursday, April 13, from 4-7 p.m. in HPER Gym 1 and will feature a number of activities including a wheelchair basketball shootout, recycling challenge, inflatable gladiator jousting, and more.

Participants who complete some or all activities will be entered to win in a drawing with multiple prizes. The first 100 attendees will also receive a complimentary swag bag. A wellness fair will feature multiple local vendors and campus organizations, and free food will be provided to keep energy levels up.

All activities at Rec Day will relate to an element of the new UA Wellness Initiative. The elements, which all contribute to a holistic model of health, are physical, social, environmental, occupational, spiritual, financial, emotional, and intellectual.

"With the arrival of the UA Wellness Initiative, Rec Day is a great opportunity to showcase fun ways to incorporate various elements of wellness into our lives," said John Cagle, Public Information Coordinator at University Recreation. "Rec Day traditionally celebrates National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day, which takes place on February 22. However, holding this year's event later in the semester allows both recreation and wellness to be combined for an even better student experience."

The event is free and open to both students and UREC members. Registration is not required for entry and participants can drop in at any time.
