Higher Education Faculty Members Win National Awards

Two University of Arkansas faculty members in the higher education graduate program were recognized by national associations for their work.
Michael Hevel, assistant professor of higher education, was named a 2015 American College Personnel Association Emerging Scholar, and Michael T. Miller, professor of higher education, was named the 2015 Senior Scholar by the Council for the Study of Community Colleges.
Hevel was recognized for his work that has focused on the American college student, particularly on alcohol use among undergraduates and the historical trends of student drinking. He was presented the award at the American College Personnel Association's Annual Conference in Tampa, Florida, earlier this spring. ACPA is a national organization that "supports and fosters college student learning through the generation and dissemination of knowledge."
Miller was recognized for his contribution to the research base on the American community college over the past 20 years. His research has particularly focused on the impact of individuals in community colleges, including student, faculty, and college leaders. He was presented his award for career contributions in research at the 57th Annual Meeting of the Council in Fort Worth, Texas. The council is an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges. Miller was also awarded the Alexander Charters Fellowship by Syracuse University for his work on adult students in community colleges.
