FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Golden Key International Honour Society, the world's largest collegiate honor society, will offer membership to high achieving students at the University of Arkansas. Golden Key chapters pave the way for future generations of students to develop personally and professionally. The benefits obtained by joining the two million-member community can provide a vital enhancement to one’s academic career and future professional career.

Membership applies to the top 15 percent of college and university sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as top-performing graduate students in all fields of study, based solely on their academic achievements. As an international honor society with more than 400 chapters at colleges and universities around the world, Golden Key is committed to a high standard of scholastic achievement and an ethos of integrity, innovation, respect, collaboration and diversity.

Golden Key offers $1 million in scholarships and awards each year — the highest amount awarded by any honor society. Golden Key scholarships are paid directly to the members, giving them the freedom to spend the funds in whatever way they choose to continue their studies. The society also offers exclusive opportunities and connections through partnerships with major corporations, career advancement and graduate programs.

Other benefits include:

  • Membership for life, with no annual dues
  • Study abroad opportunities
  • Chapter socials and leadership positions
  • Local and international leadership seminars
  • Service events

The society not only rewards its members, but also encourages them to give back to their communities. This year, Golden Key launched a brand new service initiative called SPARK a Change, which focuses on improving the lives of at-risk youth through literacy, education and real-world preparedness.

The University of Arkansas chapter recently appointed two new officers, vice-president Cody Timmermann and treasurer Alyssa Davis, and two new advisors, primary advisor Scott Lloyd, a lecturer in the Department of History, and co-advisor Lorraine Brewer, and instructor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. They hope to appoint more officers as membership grows. Becoming a chapter officer allows students to gain valuable leadership experience.

Students interested in joining and faculty members who would like to learn about advising opportunities, should contact Russell Sharp or John Dingfelder. More information about joining Golden Key can be found at the organization’s website.
