This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: April 25-May 2

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark— The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will feature concerts, recitals, art exhibitions and a Shakespeare play in this week. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.

Chere, an exhibition by Wilson Borja, will close Friday, April 25. A reception will be held in the Fine Arts Center Gallery at 5 p.m.

Also on Friday, Diego Plata will give a flute recital featuring visiting instructor Tomoko Kashiwagi at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The department of drama’s production of As You Like It continues through Sunday, April 27.  Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the University Theatre.

Sean Sweeden will give a percussion recital at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Later on Saturday in Stella Boyle Smith, Sean Breast will give a euphonium recital at 3:30 p.m. and Jacob Hilton will give a tuba recital at 6 p.m.

Also on Saturday, a faculty recital featuring Richard Rulli on trumpet will be performed at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville.

Chase Neely will give a percussion recital at noon Sunday, April 27, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Sunday in Stella Boyle Smith, the members of Ben Pierce’s tuba and euphonium studio will give a recital at 2 p.m. and Mycah Kettner and Katie McClanahan will give a violin recital at 6 p.m.

The University of Arkansas Choirs and Percussion will perform Carmina Burana at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Walton Arts Center. Admission is $1 for students with valid university ID and $5 the general public. 

Synthetic Construction, an exhibition by Jon McDaniel will open Monday, April 28. It will be on display in the Fine Arts Center Gallery until Friday, May 2, and will close with a reception at 5 p.m. The exhibit may be viewed 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 2-5 p.m. Sunday.

Also on Monday, the members of Jura Margulis’ piano studio will  give a recital at 8 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The University of Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at the Walton Arts Center. Admission is $1 for students with valid university ID and $5 the general public.

Hannah Mindeman will give a piano recital at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in Old Main’s Giffels Auditorium. The performance will also feature Patrick Bellah (cello), Andrew Baker (oboe) and John Brilhart (French horn).

Also on Thursday, the Univesrity of Arkansas Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville.
