FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Money doesn’t come with instructions. That’s why the University Libraries are hosting programs to teach financial literacy during Money Smart Week, April 5 through 12. Topics include budgeting, credit and credit cards, banking basics, preventing identity theft as well as job search strategies and cover letter and resume writing.

Partners in the initiative include the Career Development Center, the office of financial aid and the UARK Federal Credit Union. All sessions are free and open to the public.

“The habits students develop in college can impact their long-term financial health,” said Jordan Nielsen, business librarian, and organizer of the events. “Our goal is to give students the tools to make informed decisions about their finances.”

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago created Money Smart Week in 2002 to increase financial literacy. The campaign partners with libraries, not-for-profits, government agencies, financial institutions and the media to provide free educational activities and resources to the public.

All sessions will be held in Mullins Library room 102.
