This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: Feb. 7-14

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – February features recitals, workshops, lectures, plays and art exhibitions in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. Students, faculty, staff and guests are invited to attend these exciting events in the visual and performing arts.

Guest artist Susan Nigro will give a bassoon and contrabassoon recital, accompanied by visiting instructor Tomoko Kashiwagi on piano, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Andrew Flory will perform a guitar recital at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Visiting instructor, Tomoko Kashiwagi will play piano with associate professor Er-Gene Kahng and guest artist Miho Oda-Sakon on violin in a performance at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Theresa Delaplain and Friends will give an oboe recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Guest artist Marat Paransky will speak at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in room 213 in the Fine Arts Center. Paransky’s work has been on display at the Bottle Rocket Gallery in Fayetteville since Wednesday, Feb. 5, and will remain through Saturday, March 1.

Also on Tuesday, Stan Morris, associate chair of the department of music, will give a saxophone recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

sUgAR, the University of Arkansas student art gallery, will host an opening reception for artist V.L. Cox at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14. Cox’s work will be on display at the gallery until Wednesday, Feb. 26. sUgAR is located on the basement level of One East Square Plaza in Fayetteville and is open 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Bachelorette, an undergraduate project by the department of drama, continues until Sunday, Feb. 9, with nightly performances at 7:30 p.m. in Kimpel Hall’s Studio 404. The production is recommended for mature audiences only. Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for University of Arkansas students with current student identification.  Advance ticket purchase is recommended due to limited seating.

Floating Lines, an interdisciplinary student art exhibition, continues until Friday, Feb. 14, in the Anne Kittrell Art Gallery in the Arkansas Union. The exhibit is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

New Faculty Exhibition: Stephanie Pierce and Cynthia Nourse Thompson continues until Sunday, Feb. 23, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Divide Light: The Operatic Performance Costumes of Lesley Dill Exhibition continues until Sunday, April 13, in the Joy Pratt Markham Gallery at the Walton Arts Center. Gallery hours are 9 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, and one hour prior to most Walton Arts Center performances.
