CD Release Party Benefiting Area Homeless
A CD release party will be held at Powerhouse at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, during Party on the Patio to celebrate Sounds Made in Mountains, Vol. 2, an album featuring original songs by some of the most talented musicians in Northwest Arkansas.
Part of the proceeds from sale of the CD will benefit the Volunteer Action Committee at the University of Arkansas.
Cass Harris, The Downtown Livewires, Adams Collins, Richard Burnett, Brick Fields Duo, Leah & the Mojo Doctors, and Earl & Them – all of whom are featured on the album – will take the patio stage for an evening of live and local music. The party will conclude with Isayah's Allstars and a jam featuring several artists from the line-up.
Other bands included on the CD are Goose, Oreo Blue, The Swoops, Shannon Wurst, Darren Ray, Nathan A. and Groovement.
This event is being hosted by First Security Bank and admission is $5 at the door. The CD will be available to purchase at the party and at any First Security Bank in Northwest Arkansas for $6 beginning on Sept. 1. All proceeds from the sale of the CD will directly benefit area homeless students. Funds will be donated to the Families in Transition program at Fayetteville, Springdale, Bentonville, and Rogers Public Schools, as well as the Volunteer Action Committee on the University of Arkansas campus.
In early 2013, the Communities and Family Institute at the University of Arkansas administered a point-in-time census of the homeless in Northwest Arkansas. According to that report, an estimated 2,249 individuals – right here in our own communities – were found to be homeless. That's an 18 percent increase since 2011. What's more, the findings revealed that about half of the area's homeless population was enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade. They are children. And they are homeless.
