This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: Feb. 22-March 1
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will hold many events in the coming week including art exhibitions, lectures, concerts, workshops by guest artists and the opening performances of A Streetcar Named Desire. Students, faculty, staff and friends are encouraged to attend these on-campus and off-campus programs in the visual and performing arts.
The University Theatre will begin its run of A Streetcar Named Desire at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 in the Fine Arts Center’s University Theatre. The show will run until Sunday, Feb. 24. It will pick up again on Wednesday, Feb. 27, and run until Sunday, March 3. Sunday performances are at 2 p.m., and all others are at 8 p.m.
Also on Friday, senior Corey Divine will give a student trumpet recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
The Brock McGuire Band will present a workshop at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, followed by a concert at 7 p.m., both in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
The University Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Walton Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25. Tickets are $1 for students and $5 for other guests.
Guest artist Thomas Leleu will present a tuba recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Alabama printmaker Amos Kennedy will give a lecture at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in room 213 of the Fine Arts Center as a conclusion to his Amos Kennedy Prints! exhibition.
Guest violinist Alissa Margulis will perform a recital with piano professor Jura Margulis at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
sUgAR Student Gallery will present F-Stop Collaborative Photography, a one-night exhibition and reception featuring work from the U of A photography club at LaLaLand Art Gallery in Fayetteville from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28. The exhibit will showcase photography that utilizes a range of traditional processing and printing, including digital imaging, color photography, alternative processes, bookmaking and experimental endeavors.
Ongoing art exhibitions Employing Voice, Embracing Agency and Amos Kennedy Prints! will both conclude on Thursday, Feb. 28.
Employing Voice, Embracing Agency: Celebrating Contemporary African American Artists is on display in the Fine Arts Gallery, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Amos Kennedy Prints! is on view in the exhibition cases of the Fine Arts Center.
As part of the Beyond the Holocaust series, an exhibit titled Jewish Studies Beyond the Holocaust: Arkansas, History and the World will be on display in the Helen Robson Walton Reading Room in Mullins Library until Saturday, April 20.
