Professor, Graduate to Teach in Azerbaijan
A University of Arkansas professor and her former student have received a Muskie Fellowship to present lectures and workshops in Azerbaijan, the former student’s home country.
Jean Henry, an associate professor of community health promotion, and Asvad Gabul-zada, who graduated in May 2010 with a master’s degree in health science, will teach medical university faculty and public health officials in Baku, Azerbaijan, on March 27 through April 1. Azerbaijan is the largest country in the Caucasus region located at the crossroads of western Asia and Eastern Europe.
The workshops are titled “Using Theory to Guide Health Behavior Change” and “Applications of Behavior Change Theory in Public Health Programs and Interventions.”
Alumni of the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program, such as Gabul-zada, are eligible to apply for the Muskie Mentor/Advisor Exchange Project that supports continued professional relationships between Muskie alumni and their American host advisors, supervisors, professors and mentors. The program is based in the U.S. Department of State. Muskie served as Secretary of State in 1980 and 1981.
Gabul-zada is pursuing a master’s degree in ecotoxicology at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
