FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will perform in Walton Arts Center’s Baum Walker Concert Hall on Monday, Oct. 8. The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and are presented by the department of music in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences as part of the Joy Pratt Markham Series.

The concerts will feature guest percussionists Chalon Ragsdale, professor of percussion, and Fernando Valencia. The percussion duo will be performing the Concertino for Solo Percussionist and Band by Jack Stamp.

The Symphonic Band will be conducted by Christopher Knighten, associate professor of music and director of university bands, with one selection conducted by graduate student Alex Bandour. Wind Symphony will be conducted by W. Dale Warren, professor of music, with one selection conducted by Benjamin Chamberlain, assistant professor of music and associate director of bands.

“We hope that the community will come support us at this concert,” said Warren. “The students have prepared extremely hard for this performance, and we are looking forward to hearing our guest percussion artists.”

Valencia, a Bogota, Columbia native, is the former principal percussionist of The National Wind Symphony of Colombia. He has performed with the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, The Bogota Philharmonic, Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas and the Arkansas Philharmonic among others.

General admission is $10, $5 for senior citizens and $1 for students. Walton Arts Center is located on Dickson Street in downtown Fayetteville. Paid parking is available in lots near Walton Arts Center.
