Twenty-Six UA German Students Pass International Proficiency Exams in 2012

In April, 26 students passed the Goethe Institute Germany Proficiency Exam. The University of Arkansas German program congratulates U of A students: Connor Ahrendsen, Stuart Bailey, Adrian Beam, Sarah Bonine, Chelsea Burris, Alex Cantrell, Elizabeth Caruth, Kaylee Christie, Sydney Clegg, Daniel Dyer, Hall Fess, Michael Hartman, John Huber, Felicity Johnson, Aidan Lancaster, Ethan McBride, David Myers, Lauren Pavlik, Brent Perkins, Julia Perkins, Rocio Paulina Martinez Rendis, and Madeleine Williams.

The Goethe Institute Exams offer an internationally-recognized certification of proficiency in German. The B1 exam, which U of A students take as part of their German major or minor, is the level of proficiency required for citizenship in Germany, and is recognized as basic fluency by many businesses. The B2 and C1 level exams, which the university also offers, are often required for admittance to conservatories and universities and certify advanced fluency in German.

The University of Arkansas is the only Goethe Institute testing center in Arkansas and one of the few in the region; students come from as far away as Florida to take these annual proficiency exams.

The B1, B2, and C1 exams are offered each April. For more information, please contact Jennifer Hoyer, the testing chair, at jhoyer@uark.edu.
