Join us for a panel discussion with Arkansas architects for Sustainability and One Book One Community at 7 p.m. Nov. 10.

Please join architects several area architects for a panel discussion about sustainability at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10 in Giffels Auditorium.

The opening session will feature Jeff Shannon, dean, Fay Jones School of Architecture followed by the session moderator: Tahar Messadi, associate professor, Fay Jones School of Architecture, co-director of sustainability minor.

The One Book One Community and the Fay Jones School of Architecture of the University of Arkansas are pleased to sponsor a joint panel discussion on the topic of designing a sustainably built environment. Leading Arkansas architects will convene to share their experience about re-making architecture through the lens of sustainability, and to offer potential scenarios for moving sustainable design to the mainstream of practice.

Panelists include:

Reese Rowland, principal, Polk Stanley Architects, Little Rock

Rowland designed Heifer International’s World Headquarters which was named one of the top ten Green Projects in the country for 2007.

Martha Jane Murray, architect, Little Rock

Murray is the policy associate for the Clinton Climate Change Initiative and founder of the Arkansas Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Robert Sharp, architect, Fayetteville

Sharp is executive director of Partners for Better Housing and created the incremental sprawl working group to address the conversion of worn out strip commercial property into vibrant, humane and valuable places.

Chris Baribeau, principal, Modus Studio, Fayetteville

Baribeau is the designer of Eco Modern Flats, a green renovation of an existing apartment complex in downtown Fayetteville.

Jeff Huber, AIA, LEED AP, Affil ASLA, architect and adjunct assistant professor for the University of Arkansas Community Design Center

Huber integrates ecological technologies within interdisciplinary public works projects.

At the end of this session, a reception will be held in the lobby of Giffels Auditorium.
