Don Munro Presents Fay Jones School Lecture

Internationally known landscape architect Don Munro will present "Public Parks, Privately Procured" at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, in Hembree Auditorium, Room 107E of the Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences Building. His lecture is part of the 2011-12 Lecture Series for the Fay Jones School of Architecture.

Munro studied at Cheltenham College of Art and Design, where he gained his Diploma in Landscape Design in 1982. He became a Chartered Landscape Architect in 1984 and worked in Hong Kong and London for leading international practices before starting his own practice, Munro + Whitten, in 1994.

Munro has international design expertise in all types of landscape and public realms for both private and public sector clients. He is highly experienced in the delivery of multi-million pound landscape contracts and the management of large design and procurement teams. He is equally happy working with local community groups to help them meet their landscape aspirations in their neighborhood or district.

His design teams at Munro + Whitten are introduced to projects at an early concept stage, by clients and consultants alike, to ensure the landscape, biodiversity and public realm are key components within and supporting projects. They take the projects through their various stages and ultimately onto site where they work closely with contractors to realise the design intent.

Munro has tutored at universities in the United Kingdom and presents lectures at local, national and European conferences. He is an examiner for the Landscape Institute and has represented his profession on many bodies and councils. He has been invited to provide articles for professional magazines and has been published in a number of books.
