Men's Golfers Busy at Amateur Events

Several members of the University of Arkansas men’s golf team have had busy summers as they make their rounds on the amateur golf circuit. Senior Ethan Tracy, junior Austin Cook, junior Josh Eure and redshirt freshman Joe Doramus are just some of the Razorbacks that have played in multiple tournaments since Arkansas ended its season at the NCAA Championships in June.

Tracy has been Arkansas’ busiest competitor as the Hilliard, Ohio, native has participated in five events so far and still has another two on his summer slate. In early June Tracy finished tied for 33rd at the Sunnehanna Amateur with a four-round score of 284, four-over par which included a third round tally of 67. His next event was the Northeast Amateur where he finished tied for 61st at eight-over par. At the North and South Amateur, a match play event, Tracy won his first round four and three before falling in the second two and one. July 6-10 saw Tracy compete at the Players Amateur where he tied for 26th with a three-round total of 287, one-under par. On Friday, Tracy finished his participation at the Ohio Amateur with a final round 71, to place tied for eighth with a total of 290, six-over par.

Cook played in several events earlier this summer which included a second-place finish at the Arkansas State Golf Association’s stroke play championship and just recently finished competition at the Trans-Mississippi Amateur. The All-American tied for 20th at the event with a four-round score of 278, two-under par, and posted rounds of 70, 66, 71 and 71.

Eure’s summer circuit began at the Maryland Amateur where the Crofton, Md., native tied for 11th with a one-round total of 73, two-over par. Eure met his teammate Tracy at the North and South Amateur and won his first match two up before losing to the eventual champion in 19 holes in the second round. At the Maryland Open in mid-July, Eure again tied for 11th as he shot 219 over his three rounds and finished at three-over par. Eure’s most recent tournament came at the Eastern Amateur where he tied for 25th despite shooting four-under par and posted three rounds in the 60s.

After winning the tournament qualifier in Little Rock, Doramus earned a spot at the prestigious Southern Amateur where he missed the cut in the talent-packed tournament. Doramus shot rounds of 77 and 83 on way to his finish outside the 61-person cutline.
