NEW DIRECTOR APPOINTED FOR UA WALTON COLLEGE’S SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT RESEARCH CENTER

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas has announced the appointment of Jim Crowell as the managing director of the Supply Chain Management Research Center.

As managing director, he is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Center, which supports education and research in supply chain management and serves as a conduit between the academic and business communities.

Tom Jensen, Wal-Mart Lecturer in Retailing and chair of the department of marketing and transportation logistics, said, "We are very pleased to be able to bring a managing director of Jim’s caliber to head the Supply Chain Management Research Center. He brings over 25 years of experience in logistics planning, procurement, transportation and warehousing.

"Industry and business continue to look closely at supply chain costs and technology as a means of reducing expenses and increasing efficiencies. The leading-edge research that the Center conducts is supporting these efforts," Jensen added.

Crowell has a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Colorado at Boulder and an MBA from the University of Colorado at Denver. He is past president of the Council of Logistics Management for the Rocky Mountain Region and a recipient of the Colorado Transportation Community Leadership Award. He worked for Coors Industries for many years and most recently was operations manager for the Lake Valley Seed Company. He has taught courses in logistics and transportation at the University of Colorado in Denver and Regis University.
