Fowler House Construction by Flintco Wins Top Award in the State
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The new Wallace W. and Jama M. Fowler House, the chancellor’s residence at the University of Arkansas, constructed by Flintco Inc., was awarded the 2008 Chairman’s Trophy by the Associated Builders and Contractors’ Excellence in Construction Awards Program. The Chairman’s Trophy is the top prize for construction in the state of Arkansas. Flintco also won the Award for Institutional Buildings in the $2 million to $5 million category for the Fowler House project.
“The University of Arkansas is very proud of the Fowler House and of the team at Flintco,” said G. David Gearhart, chancellor-elect. “Their team has worked tirelessly to construct a beautiful landmark for our campus that will be used as a gathering place for the Arkansas community. The house will serve as a focal point for activities promoting and representing the university.”
"Flintco has thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the team that brought this very special project from concept to completion,” said Heath Rheay, project manager at Flintco, “and we could not have done it without the hard work and exceptional talent of the architects, designers, engineers, subcontractors and the university's representatives. To receive the ABC Chairman's Award for this project is the icing on the cake for our team."
The Associate Builders and Contractors awards program is designed to publicly recognize the quality and innovation of construction contractors and vendors. The program recognizes the “best of the best” and continues to raise standards throughout the construction industry. Entries are judged on their complexity, attractiveness, unusual challenges, completion time, workmanship, safety and budgets. Projects that win in their states will then compete for the national awards that are to be presented in December. In addition to being eligible to compete for the national awards, all winning entries at the state level compete for the Chairman’s Trophy, which is awarded to the state’s top project.
In 2005, Wallace and Jama Fowler of Jonesboro made a $1.75 million gift commitment toward the construction of a university chancellor's residence on the University of Arkansas campus. A dedication ceremony will be held at the house Sept. 20.
