Chemistry And Biochemistry Students Awarded Scholarships
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The department of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Arkansas is pleased to announce the scholarship and Honorary Scholar recipients for the 2003-2004 academic year.
Matthew Brimberry, Laurie Cadwallader, Joshua McElderry, Ioana Peret, Jefferey Ruff and Dragos Seghete were awarded DuPont Scholarships for academic excellence. This award was established through industrial gifts from DuPont - Conoco.
Grace Ong received the Arthur and Lois Fry Scholarship awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior chemistry major who plans to work in industry. This scholarship was established by Arthur Fry, University Professor Emeritus, and his late wife Lois.
Carmen Garrett and Nathan Ladd received Jacob Sacks Scholarships presented to outstanding premedical students. This scholarship honors former Professor Jacob Sacks, a long-time member of the faculty who, together with his wife Wilma, established the first biochemistry research laboratory in the department of chemistry and biochemistry.
Amanda Billingsley, Robert Brandon, Leah Bullard, Ryan Colvin, Janna Halladay, Joshua McElderry and Steven Neal received Coulter Jones Scholarships, which are awarded exclusively to Arkansas natives. Lonoke native and UA alumnus Coulter W. Jones, class of 1905, established this scholarship in the 1950s.
Joseph Allison, Melanie McGlothren, Khoi Vo, Laura Wilson and Jennifer Woods received Ed Amis Scholarships, which honor the professional accomplishments of former Professor Edward Amis who was world renowned for his research on electron transfer and solvent effects on kinetic phenomena.
Leremy Colf, Danis Copenhaver, David Deitz, Matthew Lohse, Eli Matthews, Kristina Partrick, Jennifer Pharr, Ami Sri Ramaratnam and Justin Walden were named Honorary Scholars for their outstanding academic achievement in chemistry and biochemistry.
