BOAR'S HEAD PLAYERS PRESENT TWO NEW PRODUCTIONS

Fayetteville, May 20, 1999: Boar's Head Players kicks off their 1999 Summer Season of cool summer fun and side splitting humor with two comedies in a new format. We will be presenting two hilarious productions in repertory The Foreigner, by Larry Shue and Black Comedy, by Peter Shaffer. Each production will have an opening weekend followed by a week of alternating performances each night.

. The Foreigner is set in the backwoods-fishing lodge in Georgia. Froggy LeSeur (Kevin Cohea), brings along Charlie Baker (John Manning), a shy professional proofreader. When Froggy leaves, for the military training camp he runs, he tells Betty (Julie Gabel) that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country that doesn't speak English. Under this disguise he overhears more than he should and finds himself having to outwit the Rev David Lee (Danny Thompson) and his redneck associate to save the family lodge from disaster. Written by Larry Shue, author of The Nerd, The Foreigner is a perennial favorite of audiences nationwide. A guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

. Black Comedy plays upon the reversal of light and dark: when the lights are "on" we see nothing but darkness; when they are "off" we see the characters behaving as if they were in a blackout. It is set in a starving artist's studio(Neal Starbird), who has "borrowed" his neighbor's (Tim Saucier) furniture to impress a prospective art buyer and his prospective bride's father (Gary Lyons). They blow a fuse right at the crucial start of the evening, leaving them to grope in the "dark" as they discover several unexpected guests. Award winning playwright Peter Shaffer (Amadeus and Equus) has composed a slamming-door farce in the tradition of Faulty Towers that will have audiences howling.
