Join the Italian Program in welcoming Ethiopian-Italian director and storyteller Dagmawi Yimer as he visits the U of A campus on Wed. Oct. 21, 2026.

Hear the untold stories of Ethiopian refugees in Rome in this powerful, award-nominated documentary. Like a Man on Earth explores pain, dignity, resilience and the human cost of Europe's border policies. Yimer will introduce the documentary, as well as his experimental short film Waiting (co-authored with Sharam Khosravi). He will also discuss the work of the Archivio delle Memorie Migranti (Migrant Memory Archive), of which he is co-founder and vice president, an innovative collective dedicated to preserving and sharing migrant memories through participatory storytelling and filmmaking.

Following the screening at 6 p.m. in Hillside Auditorium 206, Yimer will engage with the audience in a live Q&A session, offering insights into his work, the experiences represented in the films and the broader questions of migration, memory and social justice.

This event is co-sponsored by the Honors College, the International and Global Studies program, and the Art History Department. Questions? Email prof. Calabretta-Sajder (calabret@uark.edu)
