Arkansas Flute Festival Returns Jan. 30 With Guest Artist José Valentino

The U of A's Community Music School will host the Arkansas Flute Festival on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2027. Flutists of all ages and playing levels are invited to join U of A assistant professor of flute Cristina Ballatori and visiting artists for a day of workshops, performances and collaborative music-making.

This year's featured guest artist, José Valentino, brings together classical, jazz, Latin jazz, world music and improvisation. He is a four-time Grammy Award winner, Latin Grammy Award nominee, an accomplished composer and performer, and currently the associate professor and program coordinator of the Music Business & Entrepreneurship Program at the University of Florida.

Throughout the day, participants can take part in hands-on workshops, join Elizabeth Shuhan for Flutapalooza and make music together in the festival flute choir. The program also includes Arkansas flutists in recital and exhibits for participants to explore.

The festival welcomes students, teachers, professionals and adult amateurs, offering opportunities to develop their skills, explore new musical ideas and connect with fellow flutists from across the region.
