Granny Camp Returns With English Paper Piecing Workshop Today in Mullins

Ready to learn a new sewing skill? Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts will host the next Granny Camp from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the Mullins Library Event Space. The drop-in event is open to the public and will teach participants the basics of English paper piecing, a traditional quilting technique.

English paper piecing uses fabric wrapped around paper shapes that are hand-stitched together to create intricate quilt patterns. The technique is approachable for beginners and can be used to create everything from small decorative projects to larger quilts.

Members of the Washington and Benton County Extension Homemakers Councils will lead the hands-on activity and share their sewing knowledge with participants. No previous sewing or quilting experience is necessary.

The Granny Camp series, sponsored by Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts, brings experienced community members, or "Grannies," to campus to share practical skills and traditional knowledge. The series is designed to encourage intergenerational learning while giving participants an opportunity to learn something new in a relaxed, social setting.

Participants can drop in anytime during the two-hour event and stay as long as they like. Snacks and drinks will be provided, and no registration is required.

Whether you are an experienced quilter or have never picked up a needle and thread, Granny Camp offers a chance to learn, make something and connect with others.
