What's New in Workday: Quarterly Release Update

Workday changes arrive through four major releases each year — approximately one per quarter. Two releases are delivered by Workday, typically in March and September, and two are coordinated by the U of A System Office. System Office releases may include approved change requests submitted by the U of A and other institutions across the system.

Each release update will highlight changes expected to be most noticeable or helpful to campus users. Because releases can include many updates — and some features may become available gradually — users may also notice other changes in Workday during or after the release.

The Sept. 19 release was a Workday-delivered release. The following improvements are automatically available:

  • A faster, more responsive search. The classic search bar is being replaced with a new search experience that uses predictive typing to help users quickly find people, tasks and reports.
  • Guided job changes and promotions. Managers and HR professionals will see a step-by-step wizard for certain job changes and promotions involving a manager's direct reports. The guided process is designed to reduce errors and help transactions move through approvals more efficiently.
  • Greater protection for banking information. Account numbers will be masked throughout Payment Elections, adding another layer of protection for sensitive banking information.
  • An easier way to save charts. Users viewing a report visualization will be able to save the chart directly as an image file without using a separate screenshot tool.

The next major Workday release is expected in March 2027. Users who experience an issue or need assistance following the update should submit a request through the Workday Help Hub.
