The U of A has launched a new website for the Performance Framework Project, a university-wide initiative focused on redesigning how performance is measured, supported and developed for faculty and staff.
Led by the Office of Human Resources and Office for Faculty Affairs, the project is a key component of the 150 Forward strategic plan's Employer of Choice pillar. The initiative aims to create a more meaningful and consistent approach to performance management that supports employee growth while advancing institutional goals.
The new website serves as a central resource for the campus community and includes project information, timelines, frequently asked questions and opportunities to stay informed as work continues through 2027.
Since the project began this spring, the project team has conducted focus groups and interviews with faculty and staff from across campus to better understand experiences with current performance review processes and identify opportunities for improvement. Those conversations revealed several common themes.
Faculty and staff described current evaluation processes as time-intensive with limited value, expressed a desire for greater consistency across the institution and emphasized the need for more meaningful feedback and development conversations throughout the year. Participants also highlighted challenges with existing systems and a need for clearer expectations, accountability and recognition. The findings closely align with the project's goals of creating a framework that supports ongoing performance conversations, clarifies expectations, strengthens employee development and provides a more consistent experience across the university.
"The feedback we've received from faculty and staff has been invaluable in helping us understand both the strengths and challenges of our current approach," said Ashley Ingram, project manager and senior HR director - talent development, talent management, engagement & experience. "We consistently heard that employees want performance conversations that are more meaningful, development-focused and connected to their work throughout the year. Those insights are helping guide the next phase of this project and ensuring we build a framework that better supports employee success."
The project is examining not only performance evaluations, but also the broader systems, tools and conversations that help employees grow, develop and succeed throughout the year. Additionally, managers will have new practical tools that simplify performance conversations, strengthen goal alignment and support effective feedback.
Project Milestones Include:
- Spring 2026: Project launch, interviews and focus groups with faculty and staff
- Summer-Fall 2026: Analysis of findings, development of guiding principles and framework design work, staff framework implementation and training
- Spring 2027: Continued development, refinement and faculty framework implementation and training
The website will be updated regularly as new information becomes available, including more detailed results from the focus groups conducted. Faculty and staff are encouraged to visit the site for project updates, resources and future engagement opportunities as the initiative progresses. Visit hr.uark.edu/performance to learn more.
