The U of A has formally announced Randy Hegwald as the next campus fire marshal. Hegwald is replacing Wayne Brashear, who retired in April.
With more than 20 years of experience overseeing fire protection, Hegwald brings a wealth of knowledge and exposure to the fire protection industry.
As the campus fire marshal, Hegwald will ensure campuswide fire and life safety by enforcing codes, inspecting complex building systems and bridging the gap between education and enforcement.
Hegwald will also be responsible for reviewing construction plans for fire safety compliance, managing proper hazardous materials practices and leading emergency response coordination.
Richard Ashworth, director of the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, is eager to have Hegwald to join his team.
"We are excited to have Randy join the university to fill this critical campus role," Ashworth said. "His comprehensive background in fire protection and municipal leadership makes him uniquely qualified to protect our dynamic campus environment."
Hegwald has served in several similar positions including fire chief, emergency management coordinator and fire inspector.
