The U of A's Italian Program proudly welcomed 17 outstanding students into its chapter of Gamma Kappa Alpha, the national Italian honor society, during its annual initiation ceremony April 16, 2026.

Gamma Kappa Alpha recognizes exceptional academic achievement in the study of Italian language, literature and culture at colleges and universities across the United States and Canada. The honor society promotes a deeper appreciation of Italy's rich cultural heritage while encouraging continued scholarly excellence among its members.

This year's inductees represent a diverse and accomplished group of students who have demonstrated both academic distinction and a strong commitment to Italian studies. The Italian Program extends its warmest congratulations to the newest members: Mark Barrows, Ann Bell, Wyatt Black, Hayli Boessen, Sidney Casey, Payton Crowne, Spencer DeVilliers, Sofia Engar, Carson Hamilton, Jenna Klewsaat, Kristen Marinelli, Mac Principe, Siena Ralph, Preston Rountree, Landon Smith, Julia Rock and John Canaan Taylor.

The ceremony celebrated not only the students' achievements but also their dedication to engaging with Italian culture, history and language at an advanced level. As members of Gamma Kappa Alpha, these students join a broader academic community committed to fostering intellectual curiosity and cultural understanding.

In addition to induction, Gamma Kappa Alpha continues to support undergraduate excellence through its annual scholarship award, further underscoring the society's mission to recognize and encourage high achievement in Italian studies.

Students interested in learning more about membership opportunities in Gamma Kappa Alpha are encouraged to contact the chapter's advisers, Professors Ryan Calabretta-Sajder (calabret@uark.edu) and Valentina Morello (vmorello@uark.edu), for additional information.
