U of A music education student Annabelle Ridlon will serve as a 2026 Modern Band Summit Collegiate Ambassador, a competitive national program recognizing emerging leaders in contemporary music education.
Ridlon was selected from a nationwide pool of applicants to attend the Modern Band Summit, hosted by Music Will, a leading organization supporting popular music education and modern band programs in schools.
The Modern Band Summit gathers music educators from across the nation to participate in professional development centered on contemporary ensemble techniques, songwriting and inclusive music-making. As a collegiate ambassador, Ridlon will play an active role in supporting the conference while also attending sessions and networking with industry leaders.
"Annabelle's selection demonstrates her dedication to music education and her interest in innovative teaching methods," said Daniel Abrahams, associate professor of music education at the U of A. "Opportunities like this enable our students to participate directly in national conversations shaping the future of music education."
As part of the ambassador program, Ridlon will support conference operations, including sessions, registration and event logistics. In addition to gaining leadership and professional experience, she will attend workshops and network with educators from across the country.
The summit will be held July 19-25, 2026, at Colorado State University, where Ridlon will join a select group of college ambassadors who will work alongside Music Will staff and presenters. Conference costs, including registration, lodging and meals, are covered for chosen participants, making the experience accessible to emerging educators.
Ridlon's selection underscores the U of A music education program's ongoing focus on training future teachers to adopt evolving and inclusive methods in music teaching and learning.
