U of A Launches Project to Review and Enhance Employee Performance and Support

This project will gather input from a wide range of campus stakeholders to support a more consistent, growth-focused approach to faculty and staff performance.

The U of A launched a project this spring to review and strengthen its performance framework for faculty and staff, with the goal of supporting professional growth, improving the quality and clarity of feedback and development conversations, and increasing consistency of practices across the institution. The review will examine how current performance processes are experienced today and inform updates that are meaningful, forward-looking and supportive throughout the year, while providing clearer expectations and recognizing the variety of roles and responsibilities across campus.

To support the work, the university is partnering with Segal, a national consulting firm with experience in higher education performance frameworks and human resources initiatives. Segal will work with university leadership and faculty and staff steering committees to gather input through interviews and focus groups with a wide variety of campus stakeholders that will begin in mid-April and continue for the next several months.

Anna Zajicek, vice provost for faculty affairs, is leading the faculty steering committee, and Amy Ochoa, senior associate vice chancellor for human resources, is leading the staff committee.

As the project moves forward this year, the university will continue to share updates including Arkansas News articles, a dedicated project website and direct messages on what work is underway, what the university is learning and how feedback will inform next steps.
