U of A faculty, staff, and the community are invited to the 4th annual German History Hike, from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 18. Participants will learn about German author Friedrich Gerstäcker and his experiences in Wild West Arkansas during the antebellum period, from a 4th of July barbecue held by a political candidate to the antics of horse thieves and his general admiration for the pioneers creating a free life for themselves in the wilderness.
Because the Devil's Den trail is still being repaired, the hike this year is being held at the Fayetteville Traverse (trailhead next to the old Ozark Smokehouse building at the intersection of Rupple Road and MLK Blvd.). The hike is in English and open to everyone, but registration is required as space is limited.
