Following World Pregnancy Day, recognized on March 22, the University of Arkansas is highlighting key efforts to support students and employees who are pregnant, nursing or parenting. Over the past year, the university has strengthened its support through expanded resources, updated policies and an upcoming pregnancy accommodations training.
The university has expanded access to lactation spaces across campus. These designated rooms are now included on the campus map , making it easier to locate private, accessible spaces for nursing parents. A new pregnancy specialist role within the Title IX office provides more direct support for the campus community as well. This position helps students and employees understand their rights, navigate available resources and request accommodations related to pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum recovery. To learn more or request support, visit the pregnancy and parenting resources webpage.
In addition to these resources, modified work assignments and parental leave options for faculty and staff have been expanded to include non-birthing parents. This update recognizes that welcoming a new child impacts all parents and provides greater flexibility to support caregiving responsibilities, adjustment periods and overall work-life balance.See Staff Parental Leave and Modified Work Assignments Fayetteville Policy 419.1 or Faculty Modified Work Assignment for Maternity and Paternity Academic Policy 1420.12 for more information.
Finally, employees are welcome to connect through the Parents and Caregivers Employee and Colleagues Resource Group. This group creates space for individuals to build community, share experiences and learn about available support resources.
