The jazz program in the Department of Music is thrilled to announce Grammy-winning pianist Alan Broadbent and acclaimed bassist Harvie S will be the artists-in-residence at the 2026 UARK Jazz Festival April 15-19. The pair, who have performed and recorded together for many years, will be performing with multiple combinations of U of A students and faculty, as well as hosting workshops and clinics on jazz and working with the NWA Jazz All-Stars Program.
The festival will feature jazz ensembles from across the region and the state, as well as celebrate local jazz musicians and the talent in Northwest Arkansas.
Alan's and Harvie's residencies are made possible by the Moye Family Jazz Residency program and a partnership with the Northwest Arkansas Jazz Society. "It is absolutely spectacular to welcome two extraordinary artists to our community," said Jazz Area Coordinator Jake Hertzog. "This year's program will be the most extensive yet, and it is so exciting to blend our on- and off-campus musical communities in this way. We are so grateful to all who have made this possible."
Robert Ginsburg, founder and artistic director of the Northwest Arkansas Jazz Society, said, "Working with the university has always produced rewarding and fruitful outcomes, from channeling our high school Jazz All Star students to the U of A jazz studies program, to cooperatively produced events. This residency program continues to build bridges for the common cause of bringing the music to students and the jazz-loving public as well."
Concerts will take place on the U of A campus with additional off-campus events. Featured shows will be:
Wednesday, April 15, 7:30 p.m. at Faulkner Performing Arts Center
Thursday, April 16, 7:30 p.m. at Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall
