Student & Campus Experience

Katie Sabo
Associate director of Global Engagement

Sabo has transformed the development of effective, safe and academically rigorous study abroad programs for Fulbright College students. Through her leadership, global engagement opportunities have expanded in both quality and impact, ensuring students gain meaningful international experiences that enrich their academic journeys. Her commitment to student success and global learning continues to strengthen the university's reputation for excellence in international education.

Rachel Bumpus
Administrative specialist III
Department of Physics

Bumpus plays a vital role in the daily operations of the Department of Physics. Colleagues describe her as highly efficient and exceptionally responsive, helping manage everything from hosting international colloquium speakers to coordinating travel, hiring processes, purchasing, event planning and student support. From ensuring faculty, students and postdoctoral fellows are paid on time to organizing departmental events and assisting visitors from around the world, Bumpus' attention to detail and dedication create a seamless experience for the department community. Her professionalism and desire to help have earned recognition from guests and colleagues alike.

With decades of service to Bumpers College, Peppers brings both technical expertise and historical perspective to his role. Known for his curiosity and commitment to continuous improvement, Peppers consistently elevates the college's data-driven initiatives. He not only analyzes data but understands the story behind it, connecting past trends with present challenges to guide informed decision-making. His ability to translate complex information into meaningful insights fosters collaboration among faculty, staff and leadership. Through thoughtful problem-solving and a values-driven approach, Peppers ensures data supports equitable, student-centered outcomes across the college.

External Relations & Strategic Initiatives

Robby Edwards
Communications director

Edwards exemplifies excellence in leadership, collaboration and strategic vision. His work has elevated the college's public presence while fostering a culture of positivity and growth within the community. Whether coordinating complex communications campaigns or guiding messaging during pivotal moments, Edwards aligns people and resources with precision and integrity. He anticipates challenges, identifies opportunities and ensures communications remain aligned with long-term goals. In addition to his strategic impact, Edwards invests in mentoring and developing staff, strengthening the communications team and empowering emerging leaders.

Facilities & Campus Support

Caleb Darden
Assistant director of Facilities and Maintenance
Transit and Parking

Darden's innovative and strategic leadership has delivered significant results for the university. This summer alone, his efforts generated more than $97,000 in cost savings for campus partners, including the Alumni Association and the Arkansas Technology and Research Park. By managing crack sealing and seal coating projects in-house rather than outsourcing, Darden demonstrated fiscal responsibility and operational excellence. His willingness to take on additional responsibilities, share knowledge and collaborate across departments has elevated performance within his team and beyond. Darden's commitment to service, continuous improvement and teamwork makes him an invaluable asset to the university community.

These five recipients represent the exceptional talent and dedication found throughout the U of A. Their contributions strengthen campus operations, enhance the student experience and advance the institution's mission of teaching, research and service.

About Staff Senate: Created in 1976 by Board of Trustees Policy 810.1, Staff Senate and its elected senators have the responsibility of making recommendations to university leadership on any matter of staff concern, including quality of work life, the efficiency of operations, and staff service to the campus community. Staff Senate advocates in the areas of compensation, working conditions, health and wellness, fringe benefits, safety, parking, and other workplace issues. In addition, Senate works to celebrate, recognize, and give back to staff through programs such as Employees of the Quarter & Year, awards for Staff Team and Part-Time Employee of the Year, Staff Appreciation Week, the annual Staff Appreciation Picnic, Staff Senate Scholarships, and RazorGifts.
