This spring, the Japanese Student Association (JSA) RSO will host several Japanese Language Table meetings at the World Languages and Digital Humanities Studio located in JBHT 207 from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. This event is organized and facilitated by members of JSA and is open to all students across campus.
The JSA Japanese Language Table is a recurring conversation-based event designed to provide students with an inclusive and welcoming space to learn and practice Japanese. This initiative was created to support growing student interest in the Japanese language, as well as Japanese culture, anime, J-pop and everyday life in Japan. All students who are interested in Japanese, from the language to the culture, are welcome to attend the language table.
Three proficiency levels are offered at the JSA Japanese Language Table: beginner, intermediate and advanced, and no prior experience with Japanese is required. The language table can be a great first step for those who are just starting to learn Japanese or are interested in future study. Intermediate and advanced learners will be able to enhance their oral proficiency skills with more complex conversations at their respective levels.
The central focus of the event is practical communication. Each session emphasizes interactive conversation, vocabulary building and cultural exchange through themed discussions and activities. The theme of each meeting will range from daily life, various cultural topics (such as food, fashion and transportation) to semester review games. Overall, Japanese Language Table aims to foster cross-cultural understanding, language confidence and a sense of community among students.
JSA Japanese Language Table will meet on Fridays on the following dates at 3:30 p.m. in the World Languages & Digital Humanities Studio, and will cover the noted themes:
