Georgette Madewell, supervisor of the Student Financial Processing team, who has served the U of A for more than 42 years in various roles within the Treasurer's Office, will retire Dec. 31.
"Georgette exemplifies the spirit of the University of Arkansas," said Jordan Campbell, director of student financial accounting. "For 42 years, she has dedicated her career to serving in the Treasurer's Office, becoming an invaluable resource and a trusted pillar of our department. Her depth of knowledge and unwavering commitment to student success are unmatched. Georgette is widely respected across campus and frequently sought out for her expertise. Her passion for excellence and her tireless efforts ensure that every student receives the highest level of care and support."
Madewell joined the university in November of 1983 as a cashier in the Administration building. She remembers the evolution of the process of receipting payments from the time she began until now, which has changed drastically over the last four decades. She held other positions of head cashier, accountant and, finally, supervisor of the Student Financial Processing team, where she oversees the processes of student refunds, waivers, outside scholarships and business invoice payment processing.
"I have enjoyed all of my years at the university," Madewell said. "I will miss this place and the people who make it a community."
An open reception to celebrate Madewell's retirement has been scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at the first floor common area in Uptown West, 1001 E. Sain St.
