University Libraries Host Virtual Reality Drop-In Sessions in November, December
The University of Arkansas Libraries are inviting students, faculty and staff to step into new worlds, no reservation required. Beginning Monday, Nov. 17, and continuing each Monday through Dec. 8, the AR Creation Studios in Mullins Library will host open drop-in sessions highlighting virtual reality spaces from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
These weekly events offer the campus community a chance to explore the Libraries' cutting-edge virtual reality treadmills and headsets in a relaxed, come-and-go environment. Participants can challenge friends to multiplayer games or embark on solo adventures across immersive digital landscapes.
"We hope, that in addition to providing some late semester fun and relaxation, these drop-in sessions inspire our students, faculty and staff to imagine the various ways in which they can use all of our new creative technology spaces to support their own learning, teaching and research," said Stephanie Pierce, director of the Libraries' Experiential Learning Department.
Located on the lobby level of Mullins Library in room 244, the VR spaces are typically available by reservation. The new drop-in format makes it easier for newcomers to try the technology and learn how the Libraries' resources can support academic projects, creative exploration and stress relief during the busy end-of-semester period.
Participants are welcome to come at any time during the open hours, and no prior experience with virtual reality is necessary. Staff members will be on hand to provide guidance, explain equipment features and help visitors get the most out of their experience.
