U of A to Celebrate International Education Week Nov. 17-21

The Graduate School and International Education will host a week of events in recognition of International Education Week Nov. 17-21, celebrating the transformational impact of international education on the U of A campus and beyond.

A joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, International Education Week is an annual event promoting international programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences.

This year's celebration at the U of A includes a slate of signature events centered on a different theme each day, providing the campus community with opportunities to learn about the diverse cultures of international regions whose students attend the university.

The signature programs for this year's International Education Week are:

Monday: Celebrating Cultures, Celebrating Community

  • 9-11 a.m.: International Education Week Launch in the International Connections Lounge in the Union
  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: International Student Organization Bazaar in the Union Ballroom

Tuesday: Global Learning & Academic Engagement Across the Colleges

  • 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: International Research Poster Session in the Union, rooms 507-511
  • Noon to 2 p.m.: International Faculty and Staff Appreciation Lunch in Gearhart Hall, room 206
  • 3:30-4:30 p.m.: Building Global Careers: Alumni Perspectives, virtual event (link available at iew.uark.edu)

Wednesday: Study Abroad & International Exchange - Expanding Horizons

  • 9:30-10:30 a.m.: Rome Center Q&A, virtual event (link available at iew.uark.edu)
  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Study Abroad Alumni, Student and Faculty Panel in Gearhart Hall, room 258
  • 4-5:30 p.m.: Exchange Student Mixer in Gearhart Hall, room 206

Thursday: International Students & Scholars - Pathways, Perspectives and Play

  • 10-11 a.m.: Immigration and Career Workshop in CORD, room 349
  • 12:30-1:30 p.m.: International Student Speed Presentations in the International Connections Lounge in the Union
  • 6-8 p.m.: International Game Night in HPER Gym 1

Friday: A Reflection on Global Citizenship

  • All day: Reflection and Global Gratitude Bulletin Board at the Fulbright Peace Fountain
  • 10-11 a.m.: Panel Discussion about Global Citizenship in Gearhart Hall, room 206
  • 4-5:30 p.m.: International Education Awards Ceremony in Gearhart Hall, room 206
