The highly acclaimed Argentine guitarist Juampy Juarez will visit the U of A for a series of performances and workshops Oct. 18-22. Juarez is celebrated for his unique jazz fusion style and has shared the stage with many famous musicians in both jazz and rock idioms. In 2024, Juarez and Department of Music guitar faculty Jake Hertzog released an EP of duets titled NWA-BA, and Juarez will be joined on stage by Hertzog, Garrett Jones (bass) and drummer Don Mayall.

Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Juarez has toured and performed all over the world and appeared with well-known musicians such as Ben Monder, Sid Jacobs and Oscar Feldman. He will be performing two concerts in Arkansas during his visit and working with multiple groups of U of A students in the jazz and music business.

As an acclaimed educator, Juarez has taught at numerous Latin American universities and music schools and developed a unique online instructional brand. He has also developed courses for mikesmasterclasses.com. Juarez is the author of numerous books on jazz improvisation and music theory and is celebrated for his unique approach to chromatic music on the guitar.
"Juampy is a true modern master of the instrument," Hertzog said, "we are so lucky to share his talents with our students and our community." This will be Juarez's second appearance at the U of A, following a previous show in 2018.
