Events Celebrating 10th Anniversary of International Engineering Program
The U of A is proud to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its International Engineering Program — a unique, dual-degree initiative that prepares students for the global workforce by combining a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Bachelor of Arts in German, completed over five years.
Launched in 2015 through a partnership between Bryan Hill of the College of Engineering and Kathleen Condray of the Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures, the program is a collaboration between the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering. The IEP provides students with rigorous technical training while immersing them in language and cultural studies — culminating in an immersive fourth year abroad.
During their year in Germany, students take engineering courses at the Technische Universität Darmstadt — an institution famously recommended by Albert Einstein — and complete internships with leading German companies. Internship partners have included automotive giants like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche; major tech and manufacturing firms such as TeamViewer, Kärcher, Krones, Rychiger and ZF Friedrichshafen; leaders in aerospace including NASA and SpaceX; and German doctoral labs.
Two special events will be held as part of the 10th anniversary celebration:
Virtual Panel
Careers and Graduate Study Abroad
Thursday, Oct. 2
2:30 - 1:30 p.m. (CST)
Zoom
Hear from IEP alumni who've launched successful careers abroad. Laine Rainbolt, a junior software engineer at TeamViewer in Stuttgart, Germany, and Jackson Burnett, a graduate student in electromechanical engineering at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, will share their experiences and take audience questions.
