Social Work Professor Seeking Members of U of A Community Engaged on Homelessness

John Gallagher, associate professor of social work, is looking to establish an interest group among faculty, students and staff who are engaged on the issue of homelessness. Members of the university community who participate in research, teaching, service or administrative tasks that interacts with individuals experiencing homelessness or the organizations that serve them are encouraged to participate.

The broad goals are to:

  1. Raise awareness of the homeless crisis within the U of A and our surrounding community, and
  2. Increase collaborations among university and community partners to respond to this need.

Building on several years of direct practice with individuals experiencing homelessness in Phoenix, Arizona, Gallagher works closely with social work students, service providers, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders in Northwest Arkansas to conduct an annual point-in-time count of unhoused individuals in Northwest Arkansas. More information on that work is available here.

If you are interested in participating or just have questions, please reach out to Gallagher at jmgallag@uark.edu. Once a group of interested individuals is developed, we'll work on scheduling a meeting.
