Rachel Whitman, a U.S. Army veteran and School of Law assistant dean of administration, has been selected for the prestigious Women Veterans Lead cohort sponsored by the Foundation for Women Warriors.

The 24-member class participates in a four-month program that combines a series of online and in-person sessions focused on personal wellbeing and community leadership. Additionally, WVL partners with the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit. This partnership provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to receive mentorship from the world's most prominent leaders in business.

"I am truly honored and grateful to have been selected for this opportunity," Whitman said. "I look forward to growing as a leader while learning alongside this exceptional group of women."

A U.S. Army veteran, Whitman served on active duty from September 1998 to September 2002 as an accounting specialist, leaving with the rank of Specialist (E-4). In addition, she served in the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) for four years. She also spent time at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and two years at the 249th Military Police Detachment working at the 8th Army Confinement Facility in Camp Humphreys, South Korea. She finished her tour with the 101st Soldier Support Battalion at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

She stays connected to the military and other veterans through the WoVeN (Women Veterans Network) and by attending WVI NATCON (Women Veterans Interactive National Conference) held in Washington, D.C.

Whitman has worked for the U of A System off and on for nearly eight years and in higher education administration for more than 12 years.

"We are incredibly proud of Rachel for this tremendous and well-deserved national recognition of her outstanding leadership and service," said Cynthia Nance, dean of the School of Law.
