Hutchins and Glade Begin Elected Terms as Faculty Senate Vice-Chair and Vice-Chair Elect

Beginning July 1, professors Rhett Hutchins and Rachel Glade started their respective terms as vice-chair and vice-chair elect of the Faculty Senate.

Rhett Hutchins, elected in 2024 following a term as vice-chair of Campus Faculty last year, serves as vice-chair of Faculty Senate for 2025-2026. He served as a COEHP at-large senator from 2021-2024 and currently serves on the Undergraduate Council, since 2020. Hutchins is a teaching associate professor in Curriculum and Instruction and is the program coordinator for the educational studies program and for shared undergraduate foundations course in curriculum and instruction. Hutchins serves as materials coordinator for the U of A Clinic for Literacy. He is a former high school and middle school science teacher and began his career at the U of A in 2014.

Rachel Glade begins serving as vice-chair elect of Faculty Senate for 2025-2026. Glade is a clinical professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program within the Communication Disorders and Occupational Therapy Department in the College of Education and Health Professions. She currently serves as the program director for the CSDI Program as well as the director of the Honors Program for the College of Education and Health Professions. Glade is also currently serving as the vice-president of Academic Affairs for Speech-Language Pathology on the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's Board of Directors. Glade previously served as an at-large representative for COEHP in Faculty Senate from 2018-2022 and again from 2022-2024. She also served on COEHP College Council from 2021-2023 and was COEHP College Council chair from 2023-2024.

The Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate will be elected at the first meeting of the Faculty Senate at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, in ENGR 209. Current members of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee include:

About the Faculty Senate: The Faculty Senate is the representative body of the University of Arkansas faculty and holds authority as given in the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees Policy 810.1. The Faculty Senate exercises the general legislative powers of the faculty and has sole jurisdiction over admission requirements; transfer of credits; withdrawals; academic honesty; scholastic probation, suspension, and dismissal; curriculum and courses; degrees and degree requirements; awarding of academic honors; and recommendations to the board of trustees for honorary degrees. The faculty may also make recommendations on any institutional matter of faculty concern such as: policies regarding faculty status, including appointments, promotions, granting of tenure, retirement, nonreappointment, and dismissal; policies affecting the general welfare, working conditions, and the services performed by and for the faculty; and policies relating to academic and professional research and other scholarly and creative activities.
