Faculty, Graduate Students Lead International Webinar on Financial Behavior Insights

Betsy Garrison, professor of human development and family sciences, and Kelly Way, associate professor of hospitality management, recently partnered with graduate students Akosua Sayer Koduah and Agnes Yeboah Amfo Adu to present an international webinar for Money Habitudes, a leading personal finance education tool.
The webinar highlighted the team's latest research on student's personal financial behaviors and how Money Habitudes can be utilized to foster deeper financial self-awareness and education across diverse audiences.
The interactive session attracted participants from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, reflecting the growing global interest in behavioral finance and practical tools to enhance financial literacy training.
"This webinar showcased the interdisciplinary collaboration between family science, hospitality and financial education," Garrison said. "By integrating our research with Money Habitudes, we are equipping students with more meaningful strategies to understand and influence financial behaviors."
"Our goal is to help students tailor the Money Habitudes experience to college students, creating more engaging and impactful financial education sessions," Way said.
Koduah, in hospitality management, and Adu, in human development and family sciences, also contributed by sharing insights from their research on demographic variations in financial attitudes and effective facilitation techniques for student learning groups.
The session was part of an ongoing research collaboration between the U of A and Money Habitudes, aimed at enhancing the efficacy of financial education tools through applied research and training.
Garrison and Way are faculty members in the School of Human Environmental Sciences, which is part of the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.
Money Habitudes is a game-like assessment to help people understand and talk about their finances in a fun, constructive way. It also allows users to pinpoint underlying financial habits, attitudes and motivations to make real behavior changes.
Money Habitudes also helps financial professionals bring emotions and personal stories into the conversation, helping people navigate life issues and use them to understand the impact of the client's relationship with money without focusing on their finances.
