Registration Open for Gospel Music Camp July 13-16
The Community Music School at the U of A invites students in grades 9-12 to be a part of this summer's Gospel Music Camp! If you are passionate about gospel music and have at least one year of musical experience, whether singing or as an instrumentalist, you are welcome to attend. Campers will be led by award-winning teachers with years of experience to give each student the very best instruction available.
Jeffrey Murdock, the director of the Arkansas Center for Black Music and professor in the Department of Music, will be leading the camp, along with associate professor at the University of Cambridge Alisha Jones and special guest educator, the director of Worship and Arts at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia, Trey McLaughlin.
Students can either sign up for day camp or for the option of staying three full days and nights. Day campers are all welcome to attend dinners and evening activities. Daily classes will include gospel choir rehearsals, instrumental coaching and gospel improvisation. On the final day of camp, there will be a concert performance for all family, friends and public for campers to show off everything they learned over the four-day intensive.
Registration is through the CMS website at cms.uark.edu and the deadline to sign up for Gospel Camp is by 11:59 p.m. on June 23. Students wanting to be an instrumentalist will need to send Murdock a demo video by July 1. Instructions for submitting the video is on the CMS website.
