Spring into Sustainability: Enjoy a Free Lunch at the 'Leave Green: Lunch and Learn' Series

The U of A Office for Sustainability and University Housing are joining forces for one final Lunch and Learn this semester—and it's all about making your move-out matter this May. 

As students prepare to pack up and head out, this session spotlights Leave Green, Housing's signature sustainability program that turns unwanted items into community gold. 

Leave Green Lunch and Learn 

• Time: 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

• Complimentary lunch provided. (Please arrive between 11 a.m. and 11:20 a.m. to grab lunch before the presentation begins.)

From saving landfill space to helping local nonprofits, Leave Green makes it easy to donate instead of dump—and the impact is real. In 2022 alone, the program diverted 166 tons of material from the landfill, marking a 54% increase in donations from the previous year. 

"Leave Green isn't just about reducing waste—it's about building a culture of sustainability and generosity on campus. Every lamp, book or chair a student donates is a small act that makes a big impact for our community. We're proud to see so many students stepping up and repurposing items to the local community," said Christopher Spencer, assistant director for marketing and strategic communications for Housing. 

Spencer and Chuck Mayo, Housing's assistant director for projects, will speak about how students can be part of the solution this move-out season.  

You'll also learn how partners like Habitat for Humanity's ReStore and Potter's House work tirelessly during move-out to retrieve donations that receive a second life in the larger Northwest Arkansas community.
