Build Confidence to Commute by Bicycle at Office for Sustainability Lunch and Learn
Are you curious about riding your bicycle to work or school but are unsure where to start? Commuting by bicycle is a great way to save money, stay active and reduce your environmental footprint, but getting started can often feel overwhelming. Choosing the right bike, figuring out what to wear and identifying a safe and convenient route are all important things to consider. If you're seeking guidance, the Office for Sustainability's upcoming lunch and learn may be for you!
This lunch and learn will offer a comprehensive introduction to commuting by bike, equipping you with the knowledge and confidence to get rolling. Gabriela Ruiz, senior special projects manager at Trailblazers, will lead attendees through a thourough discussion around commuting by bike and provide tips and tricks to help riders get rolling with confidence and comfort.
The Confident Commuting Lunch and Learn will be from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in Arkansas Union 511 with lunch provided for all attendees.
The Confident Commuting Lunch and Learn is designed to cover everything you need to know before you start your bicycling commute. This event will help you identify your best fitting bike, show how to dress for different types of weather and provide you with a general understanding of what works best for your unique needs. One common topic discussed by bicycle commuters is how to arrive at your destination feeling fresh and presentable. Through the use of strategic clothing choices, smart packing methods and quick clean-up techniques, any bike commuter can quickly tackle these common concerns.
Beyond gear and preparation, feeling confident on the road and trails can make or break a bicyclist's commuting experience. In the presentation, we will address rules of the road, bike laws and safety tips to help you ride responsibly and avoid common hazards. We'll also cover bicycling etiquette for both streets and shared pathways so that you can feel comfortable on a variety of paths and surfaces.
Whether you're completely new to bicycling or looking to refine and refresh your commuting skills, our Confident Commuting event is a great opportunity to learn in a welcoming and supportive environment. All participants will receive a complimentary lunch before the presentation begins.
To join us, please register for the event through HogSync. We're excited to see you there!
