Award-Winning Game Designer, Co-Founder of Charles Games, Vít Šisler to Visit U of A

On Wednesday, March 12, the award-winning game designer and co-founder of Charles Games, Vít Šisler, will visit the University of A. Šisler will give a public lecture in the evening from 5-6:30 p.m. March 12 called "Gaming Language and Playing Kafka: Intercultural Education in the Ludic Century" in the World Languages & Digital Humanities Studio, located in JBHT 207.  

With primary focus on Playing Kafka, a 2024 narrative game based on Franz Kafka's life and work, Šisler will emphasize the importance of game development for higher education, intercultural competencies and multilingualism. A Q&A will follow the talk. 

Šisler is an associate professor of New Media Studies at Charles University in Prague and has published on Arabic and Muslim representation in digital media and video games that explore contested memories of World War II and the Holocaust. Playing Kafka is free to play via Steam, the Apple App Store and Google Play. 

While visiting the U of A campus, Šisler will also be holding guest lectures in Game Design II (with David Fredrick), Introduction to Digital Humanities (with Curtis Maughan) and Catullus & Interactive Fiction (with David Fredrick).
